• Esoteric Happy Ending: Quasimodo and Esmeralda get to live together and happy, but the Romani are being killed and Gringoire apparently was left to die.
• So Okay, It's Average: The storytelling is confusing, the animation is flawed and the ending feels forced, but the two earlier songs are nice and the film is entertaining. For all its faults, it is still better regarded than some other animated retellings of the story.
• Strangled by the Red String: While Quasimodo's love for Esmeralda was unambiguous, there was no unambiguous clue that Esmeralda was into Quasimodo, so their romance seems rushed.
• Suspiciously Similar Song: "Love is Everything" sounds very similar to "We Three Kings"; both songs share the same measure and there is a part that sounds uncannily similar.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The alternate ending was criticized for lacking the poignancy or at least an Earn Your Happy Ending tone.
