YMMV / The Hapless Child

• Bizarro Episode: Compared to other Edward Gorey books, this book is considerably different in that there is an actual plot, actual character development, and the Would Hurt a Child is cranked up to 11, in that all of the details to the unfortunate child's suffering are shown and explained.
• Tear Jerker: The ending,where the father can no longer recognize his daughter especially hits hard.
• The Woobie: As hilariously unlikely the ordeal is, one just can't help but feel sorry for poor little Charlotte Sophia. The fact that the reader is shown her affluent lifestyle before the plot kicks in doesn't help matters either.
