YMMV / The Halloween Tree

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: More people are familiar with the movie than the story it's actually based off of.
  • Awesome Music: The whole soundtrack.
  • Cult Classic: This animated film was nothing special, but to this day has quite a following.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Even though the note Pip leaves behind at his house tells them to go trick-or-treating instead of waiting up for him, his friends decide that it just wouldn’t be Halloween without him, and start to take a shortcut to meet up with him at the hospital, instead. And they would’ve, too… if they hadn’t caught sight of Pip’s spirit running through the woods and assumed the whole appendicitis thing was one of his pranks.
    • The kids giving up a year of their life to save Pip.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Moundshround refuses to set foot in Notre Dame stating he's not welcome. As he's repossessing Pip's soul because God, or other, failed to pay the rent, since when was a bailiff/court officer ever welcome at the door of someone in debt?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Near the beginning, Jenny's mom suggests to her to have a vacuum cleaner for a broom, as she's dressing up as a Witch. Jenny scoffs at the idea. Turns out that Witches do indeed use vacuum cleaners as brooms. This is doubly funny as both films share John Debney as their music composer.
  • Moment of Awesome: The creation of the Notre Dame, complete with awesome soundtrack.
  • Nightmare Fuel: A lot of moments in the film can be creepy and disturbing, including the beast flag, the zombies, mummies, etc.
  • Tear Jerker: As well as the heartwarming moment above, there's the friends' tearful reunion after Pip wakes up.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: While on a very low budget, the visuals for things like the creation of Notre Dame, the beast flag's creation and the time travel are very memorable and impressive.
