• Accidental Innuendo: When the Cat first encounters the Grinch, he promises he'll move his car out of his way if he "holds [his] hot dog".
• Audience-Coloring Adaptation: Much like the first Grinch cartoon, this special adds an extra element towards the Grinch of him as an inventor. This is something the 2000 and 2018 films would incorporate later on.
• Heartwarming Moment: The Grinch's mother assuring him that everything will be alright.
• Nightmare Fuel: The scene of the Grinch's reflection's voice chanting, "Prove it! Prove it! Prove it! Prove it!" in the Grinch's head. He has an intimidating, deep, echo-y voice.
• Tear Jerker: The song the Cat in the Hat sings to the Grinch about his mother. Unlike the rest of the cartoon, it's very slow and somber, and it begs the Grinch to be good because it's what his mother would've wanted. It even makes the Grinch himself cry.
