- Growing the Beard: The second season onwards, while nothing spectacular, got a somewhat better reception than the first season. If nothing else, the fact that those seasons were written by multiple writers at least gave more variety to the humour than was seen in the first season, which was written solely by John Sullivan.
- Sophomore Slump: Between the three Only Fools and Horses-related shows, it usually tends to be considered the weakest one, with its brand of humour being seen as increasingly outdated by the mid-late 2000s. The prequel series Rock & Chips, which followed this show, got a somewhat better reception, if only because it adopted the more modern Dramedy format that was by and in large standard for British comedy shows by that point.
