YMMV / The God of High School

Go To

  • Adorkable: Some of Jin Mori's behavior (pressing his face against soundproof glass to try and listen in on the Judges' conversation) as well as his innocence and social awkwardness in public situations qualify him as this.
  • Arc Fatigue:
    • The international tournament was this. Many readers just wanted to see Mo-Ri back home and kicking ass instead of having his clone, Hui, do it for him. The ironic thing is that way down the line, people came to like Hui as his own unique character, and were sad when it was finally time for him to go.
    • As acknowledged by the author in the final afterword, the final season of the Webtoon wound up being as long as the previous five combined because he was doing his best to tie up as many loose ends as possible.
  • Awesome Music:
    • "Contradiction" as the OP.
    • The Six vs NOX, the theme that plays when, well, the Six fight Nox, but is best remembered for when Mori lays the smackdown on Paylong and Hanseong.
    • Seoul Theam is considered one of the highlights of the track for the raw energy it provides as Mori unlocks his former godly powers as Sun Wukong while being backed up by the friends he made in the tournament.
  • Broken Base: The anime adaptation. Some fans were happy that the webtoon is finally animated and the fight scenes were nothing short of impressive. Others think it was an overhyped mess which reeks of Compressed Adaptation reminiscent of Tokyo Ghoul's animated adaptations.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Mira getting a face full of a bike's front wheel when gushing over some muscular men.
    • Mira again meeting the business end of a highway sign when pursuing a thug on a motorcycle.
  • It Was His Sled: If you haven't figured it out from comments and internet osmosis yet: Jin Mori is Sun Wukong from Journey to the West.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Remember when this series was just a high-school martial arts tournament?" Explanation
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Some fans were not happy with the Anime adaptation's story. Many of its fans were review bombing on Myanimelist.net complaining that the Anime adaptation compresses over 120 chapters into 13 episodes and despite its praise on its animation and fight scenes, the story was a rushed mess. Crunchyroll hyping it before it was released doesn't help.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Despite being one of the main characters, it takes a really long time for Mira to finally play a role in the final "A Battle with the Gods" Story Arc. Even when the focus does finally return to Mira, she's basically just a mind-controlled Damsel in Distress that Daewi has to eventually knock back to her senses. Thus, there's never a reunion for the main Power Trio, because the whole arc is basically Mira remaining sidelined while Mori and Daewi do all the heavy-lifting at pushing the story forward.
