YMMV / The Girl on the Third Floor

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: The film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, but received a far less kind reaction from general audiences. The division a bit unusual for its given subject matter: critics have largely praised the film for its challenging narrative themes in addressing misogyny and toxic masculinity through psychological horror, along with its inventive horror visuals and effects, but audiences have panned the film as being predictable in its plot, shallow in its politics, and overall boring. The acting is especially polarizing: many critics praised CM Punk's live-action Hollywood debut as a surprising highlight, while many casual viewers were quick to mock his performance as a "poor man's Bruce Campbell impression".
  • Nausea Fuel: The house has a nasty habit of producing strange, seemingly organic fluids... including a strange white slime in several scenes that is very, very clearly supposed to be semen. There's also the scene in which Don opens a wall to reveal pulsating red viscera.
  • Spoiled by the Format: Don gets eaten by the house late into the movie, but there's still 20-30 minutes left, making it clear Liz will have it out with Sarah and the house.
