• Harsher in Hindsight: It's briefly mentioned that Hina's younger sister is Delicate and Sickly, and Hina often is left home alone. In The Summer You Were There, another work by Yuama, one of the main characters, Kaori, has a chronic respiratory disease and has about a month left to live at the start of the story ultimately dying in the penultimate chapter. Additionally, Ruri, a secondary character, had a disease that caused her to often miss class when she was younger, resulting in Shizuku(who didn't know about the disease) bullying her.
• Moment of Awesome: Hina calling out the team members who were badmouthing Rei, since she knows Rei isn't lazy or cruel; she just doesn't want the other team members to hurt themselves like she did. That act impresses Rei so much that she starts calling Hina by name.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Hina's younger sister and Shiki's older brother never actually appear in the manga, and only exist to explain certain aspects of Hina and Shiki's personalities. As such, their potentially interesting life situations and relationships with their respective sisters are never explored.
• Values Dissonance: Shiki's status as a Minor Living Alone, while not judged too harshly by the story, would be seen as gross negligence on the part of the Hiiragis, who neglect their younger daughter for the sake of their elder son, in the eyes of Western audiences.
