YMMV / The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Give how implausible it is that someone so reliant on their glasses would misplace them so frequently, some fans theorize that Ai is doing it on purpose, either as an excuse to get close to Kaede because she likes him too, or simply because she finds it convenient to have someone doting on her all the time as Kaede does. Ai bursting into tears and apologizing to Kaede for inconveniencing him so much in Episode 9, however, would suggest that this isn't the case. But on the other hand, one early episode has Ai purposely hiding her glasses out of jealousy suggesting it may be the case at least a couple of times.
  • Awesome Art: While the anime adaptation's special effects can be strangely or poorly executed at times, it occasionally features some utterly gorgeous animation, with the close-up of Ai's eye in the first episode standing out for how detailed it is.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
  • Fanon Discontinuity: While nobody hates it, some fans felt the final chapter of the manga didn't add much to the story and was a bit anticlimatic in comparison to Kaede's declaration of eternal love in the previous chapter or the main pair sharing The Big Damn Kiss two chapters before that and would have preferred either of those two chapters were the ending instead.
  • Memetic Loser: Oomiya Ichigo, a One-Shot Character, who spended her entire screentime trying and failing to get Kaede's attention, to the point he never even realizes she was flirting with him, many fans had playfully called her the most useless Romantic False Lead in the history of manga.
  • Nausea Fuel: While the anime does have some nice visuals, the special effects combined with the constantly moving camera has been reported to actually cause nausea in some viewers, along with headaches. Which makes sense since it’s made from the same studio that made Hand Shakers, which was rather infamous for the way its visuals were executed.
  • No Yay:
    • In Episode 12, Kaede gets....a bit too excited to see a picture of Ai as a preschooler and even says to himself "Someone arrest me, please" , leading to this reaction among some uncomfortable audiences. Worth mentioning the moment does happen in the manga, as well but it is much more downplayed.
    • Azuma, an student finishing middle school is in love with a university student with who he has a fairly close relationship since they were kids. An Precocious Crush isn't a bad thing in itself. But then it turns out, his feelings are reciprocated. It's never revealed how much older she is that him and the two decide to not start dating until Azuma it's older, but it's still rather squicky to have the subplot being solved with The Jailbait Wait and that been treated as a perfectly happy romantic conclusion.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: In contrast to Ai's friends getting a full chapter dedicated to them learning about her and Kaede's recent Relationship Upgrade, Kaede's friends finding out is only shown quickly for one panel.
