• Awesome Moments: After spending so many volumes being protected from the soldiers by Teacher and the other Outsiders, Shiva ends up having to face a cursed soldier all alone. Despite being rather young, she proves herself fairly resourceful and reasons out that the soldier is blind, later distracting him with a bucket so she can escape and quietly slipping out of her boots when he grabs them. He catches up to her eventually, but only because she then started calling to Teacher for help; otherwise, she managed to save herself all on her own.
• Heartwarming Moments:
  • Teacher protecting Shiva from the soldiers for the first time. Although he expressly told Shiva not to go out and she did anyway, he doesn't get mad. He instead gently makes sure she's alright and shields her from the arrows before frightening the soldiers away, and later tends to her injured ankle.
  • When Shiva is upset at Teacher for lying to her about her fate, and not communicating to her properly, Shiva starts calling him a "liar" repeatedly. All the while, when Teacher is trying to explain the current situation, Shiva begins insulting other qualities about him, such as his tendency to think gloomily, his bad cooking, among other things. The two begin hurling insults at each other. What brings the heated arguement to a stop? Teacher calls Shiva a "Little Cream-puff", and Shiva calls Teacher an "Inkpot". The both of them find humor in this, and share a bond yet again.
  • The moment where Teacher and Shiva are moving to a new house to escape the soldiers, and Teacher becomes overwhelmed by all the mysteries and danger surrounding them both. Shiva notices, and spends the next several pages cheering him up by trying to make him laugh, and reassuring him that she isn't bothered by the curse because of how much she loves him and her Auntie. D'aww.
  • Though it's in the context of a sad scene, it's sweet when the manga finally goes into a flashback of how Teacher and Shiva met. Shiva woke up on the Outside and saw Teacher—who would have been a monster to her perspective. Teacher tries to leave her be and she chases after him and falls. Despite the fact that he doesn't know her at all, Teacher immediately comes back and helps Shiva tend to her injury.
