  • Awesome Music: Moby's Extreme Ways, which plays whenever something big happens. If that doesn't get your blood pumping nothing will.
    • "Melodie" by Idiotape from the opening, especially with the way the show mixes the percussion part in the beginning with the pre-match banter of the contestants.
    • Pluto, also by Idiotape, is used when host explains the game rules.
    • Centuries and Bangarang are also frequently used for key moments.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Tactical Yutnori to western viewers. Some find it to be a good game of strategy that gives plenty of room for competition, while others think it's far too slow to be interesting.
    • Yoo-young and Ji-won Stealing Doohee's ID card, causing him to come in last during Monopoly Game A lot of viewers note  see it as cowardly and unfair, while others see it as perfectly fine and well within the rules.
  • Broken Base: The Monorail deathmatch in Season 3. Some saw it as unjust that Dongmin should win from a losing position. Others thought it was an example of his incredible force of personality.
  • Determinator: In Season 3, Yeonseung gains this image for being able to overcome many setbacks during the series.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The way the alliances form in S4 E2 (Horror Race) guarantees that as long as everyone remains loyal; Junseok, Jinho, and Yoohyun cannot be sent to the death match.
  • Ho Yay: Sangmin and Sungkyu. Taken up to eleven when Sungkyu is revealed as one of the guest players for the Layoff game in Season 2
  • Memetic Mutation: Kim Gura's "I'm losing my taste for this" became an in-series meme, with later contestants saying it then they're in a bad situation.
    • Nam Hweejong's infamous performance in S2 E1 (Food Chain) inspired several memes in Korea, including his threat "you better get on my good side" and the soopdeul dancenote .
  • Questionable Casting:
    • Junseok being cast for the all-star Season 4.
      • Once the games started though, he proved himself a major contributing player.
  • Shocking Elimination: Plenty of examples:
    • Sungkyu defeating Cha Minsoo, the de-facto leader of the larger alliance for the first three episodes of S1
    • Kim Gura getting eliminated in the sixth episode by Jinho
    • Cartoonist Poong loses to Eunji in Indian poker despite her appearing not to know the rules.
    • Nam Hwee-jong, a math lecturer with a 173 IQ is taken out in the first episode of S2
    • Hong Jinho, after dominating Indian poker note  and winning the first season, is taken out by Indian Holdem
    • Sangmin getting eliminated in episode 3 of Season 4
  • Stoic Woobie: Yeonseung never loses his cool and asks not to receive any pity, even when he is clearly losing.
