YMMV / :the game: (2008)

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The standard level theme for the first installment is pretty catchy smooth elevator-fitting music. As well, the epic metal song that appears in the intro, as well as several other scenes, from the same game.
  • Breather Level: The Apps level in Reimagine, after spending a lot of time with the BP level.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: A lot, but a particular example is the Gun Control level from Replaying, which involves shooting up a school full of people, first featureless, then liberal arts students, gym bros, and more. The ending text? "Guns don't blame people, people blame people".
  • Nightmare Fuel: THE BOSS in Reimagine. By the second intermission he changes everything on the screen to an unintelligible mess of characters and distorts everything, including the advertisement, while talking about how the player is not safe from him. He eventually becomes the final boss of the game, where he looks even more disturbing, with realistic eyes to boot. By the return of the airplane minigame he eventually shifts from a Humanoid Abomination to an Eldritch Abomination, revealing tentacles inside it's body.
    • The Supernatural Claims cutscene in the first game, which has Pac-Man basically looking like he just went through hell. Not to mention both of the cheap Jumpscares at the end of it.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The first two games contain plenty of references to mid-to-late-2000s memes, as well as jokes about the 2007-2008 recession. The third does too, with social media, mobile games, Inception references, and more early 2010s memes.
