- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The time tunnels, Afterlife Express, and that planet with the memory-stealing spirit are all radically at odds with the tone of the rest of the series, and none of them are ever mentioned again. Perhaps the Galaxy Railways administration just doesn't care very much about the events in question, as very few (if any) people submitted formal complaints about the matters.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The Big One is based on the Union Pacific Big Boy, of which only eight of the original 25 were spared from the scrappers torch. By the time the series aired, The Big One was the only "operational" one of the bunch in service, but come 2019, UP put Big Boy 4014 back in service for excursion trips.
- Tear Jerker: Every episode to some extent has one, especially when minor characters die.
- Bruce's death if you want to go that far.
- The very end of season 2 has Manabu shooting his father, Wataru, whom he hadn't seen in over ten years. And what's worse is that Wataru practically orders his son to pull the trigger.
