YMMV / The Extraordinaries Series

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: The Extraordinaries received some pretty harsh criticism from US-readers about it's handling of the police, namely it's tendency to push the narrative that police officers are unsung heroes who don't get enough credit and portraying Aaron Bell assaulting a witness as merely a temporary lapse in judgement instead of a serious case of police brutality. After being made aware of this, T. J. Klune put out a statement on his blog, apologizing for his handling of the subject matter and acknowledging the present day issues with the police in the US, as well as promising to do better in the second book. Sure enough, Flash Fire touches on the topic of police brutality a lot more and even has Nick experience Broken Pedestal towards his father and the police in general.
