YMMV / The Devil's Brigade

Go To

  • Artistic License – Military: aside from the usual 1960s assortment of postwar vehicles masquerading as wartime German tanks, Major Crown mentions that he and many of his men had served at Dunkirk. In fact, no Canadians fought in the Battle of France in 1940. A small number of men of the 1st Canadian Division did land in France - ironically, after Dunkirk - and were quickly withdrawn as German forces continued their rapid advance south through Paris.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome:
    • The assault on Monte La Difensa. Like in real life, the brigade made it past what was considered impassible terrain and caught the German forces totally off guard. Despite the heavy casualties, the 1st Special Service Force successfully cleared the defenses and cleared the road up through Italy by doing the impossible.
    • O'Neill goading Rocky into attacking him and giving him a nice Break the Haughty treatment with his hand-to-hand combat teachings.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Bricker. What else do you stay about a man who keeps a footlocker full of live rattlesnakes to keep himself on his toes (incidentally this was Truth in Television, one of the real-life officers of the division did that).
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Acrobatic convict Greco and both of the Canadian Sergeant Rock's (Peacock and O'Neill) are fondly liked supporting characters.
