• Accidental Aesop:
  • Being a Jerkass to one person could result in unintentionally causing worse consequences to other people later. Most of the plot would not have happened if the Marquis hadn't been so cruel towards the beggar.
  • Everyone needs love and affection, even those who look or act monstrously. Love was the only thing keeping Leon's lycanthropy under control.
  • Be honest to your loved ones when they have a problem, because their ignorance could be dangerous to others. Leon should have been told that he was a Werewolf when he was a kid, to avoid him accidentally endangering people around him.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Leon's first Werewolf transformation away from home happens when his co-worker takes him out drinking. Oliver Reed would end up becoming The Alcoholic, which would kill him in 1999.
• Referenced by...: While not referenced by name, in An American Werewolf in London nurse Alex Price mentions this film ("the one with Oliver Reed") in a discussion with David Kessler.
• Space Whale Aesop:
  • Don't give birth on Christmas or your baby will be a Werewolf.
  • Don't arrest a Werewolf on his wedding day, it will only cause you grief.
