- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Annie and Schuyler may not be fleshed out much but are particularly popular among the Medfield kids.
- Dean Higgins, a Dean Bitterman and Beleaguered Bureaucrat humorously played by Joe Flynn of McHale's Navy fame.
- Faux Affably Evil Big Bad Arno is quite a presence, enough to be brought back for both sequels.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In the remake, Dexter not only receives seemingly unlimited knowledge, incredible math skills, and the ability to read bar codes, but also the ability to recognize if a person is a wanted criminal. So, he's The Intersect.
- Retroactive Recognition: In a rare live-action appearance, a young Frank Welker plays Henry, one of Dexter's college friends.
- Unintentional Period Piece: The enormous and clunky computer that costs $10,000, the fashions, and the short-range bug that the students use to spy on Higgins all give the movie a 60s-70s feel for modern viewers.
