YMMV / The Comey Rule

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Was Jim Comey right to re-open the investigation into Hilary Clinton's e-mails or was it a misguided attempt to appear impartial?
    • Was Rod Rosenstein a smug coward who threw Comey under the bus to save his own skin or was he just a pawn of the Trump administration?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Trump tells Andrew McCabe, whose wife ran for and lost the Virginia state Senate, to "ask her what it feels like to be a loser." Two months after this miniseries, the real life Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.
  • Iron Woobie: Comey after being fired from the FBI. He retains his composure just long enough to give a dignified goodbye to his agents and then has an understated but no less poignant breakdown in his wife's arms once he returns home.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Rod Rosenstein comes across as a bootlicking croney who is perfectly fine with tossing Comey under the bus. But when he tearfully reveals how Trump wants him to take the fall for the decision to fire Comey, even though it was Trump's idea, you can't help but feel just a bit sorry for him.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many people were interested in seeing the series solely for Brendan Gleeson as Trump, especially since it would be one of the first dramatic portrayals of Trump rather than the usual comedic parodies.
