• Badass Decay: Pete's got underway at the end of American Tabloid but Cold Six Thousand cements it. Age, increasingly stronger pangs of conscience, and all the alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and junk food that fuelled him over the years finally start taking their toll; Pete goes through a brain tumor and two heart attacks over the course of the novel, and its made clear that any further health complications are all but guaranteed to be fatal.
