YMMV / The Cat Concerto

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The timing of the jokes with the music is really something to behold.
  • Broken Base: Were the striking similarities between this cartoon and Rhapsody Rabbit a bizarre coincidence or not? And even among those who say it’s not, who copied whom is up for debate.
  • Common Knowledge: A lot of people tend to bring up the short as an example of Jerry being a jerk for no reason with Tom for waking him up despite him being the one who deiced to have his home inside a piano in a theater. In reality, while Jerry still made the odd decision of making his home inside a piano, he’s actually shown enjoying Tom’s performance until Tom decides to flick him off, which is what makes Jerry want to make Tom’s life a pain. It’s possible these people are mixing it with The Cat Above and the Mouse Below which does features Jerry being a jerk from the get-go to Tom for waking him up despite him deciding to make his home under an opera house.
  • Ending Fatigue: Jerry uses literal ending fatigue against Tom by repeatedly restarting the frantic finale of "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" and forcing him to play it out each time rather than let the audience know he's being played, until he finally finishes and just collapses on the piano on the brink of unconsciousness.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The entire debacle between this cartoon and Rhapsody Rabbit becomes funny in the end after Tom and Jerry producer Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer bought United Artists (then the distributor of the pre-August 1948 color Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies library) in 1981, bringing the shorts under common distribution, which was followed by various ownership changes over two decades resulting in both shorts ending up with Warner Bros.
