- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: A well known scrappy in the original game, Navi is widely considered much more likable in The Boy Without a Fairy. Her characterization and importance to the story are widely expanded, acting as a maternal figure to Link and teaching him about the world on top of giving him some much-needed stability. She also takes a much more proactive role in combat such as using a flash of light to distract foes and has even saved Link's life on multiple occasions.
- Squick: A woman attempting to hit on a now-adult Link becomes this due to the fact that he is still mentally a child. Malon almost doing the same isn't much better, even if Navi acknowledges that she genuinely cares about him.
- The Woobie: Poor Link. His childhood took a turn for the worse when all of the other Kokiri (sans Saria) suddenly started acting cruelly to him, all because he had no fairy.
