- Award Snub: Got a well deserved Oscar nomination for its screenplay, but nothing else. The best that it got in terms of performances was Holly Hunter making SAG. Particularly bad was it's shut out at the Golden Globes where many thought it was a shoe in due to the comedy specific categories.
- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Kumail's meltdown at the drive-through is never mentioned again.
- He Really Can Act:
- Kumail Nanjiani's heartfelt and hilarious semi-autobiographical performance impressed many, expertly holding his own against more seasoned veterans and actors more accustomed to drama.
- Ray Romano was also met with a lot of praise for similarly mixing his famous comedic timing with strong dramatic chops, getting similar praise compared to his much more prestigious onscreen wife.
