  • Awesome Music: The main theme, "Voci Dal Nulla" by Fabio Frizzi, is a gorgeously awesome King Crimson-esque thing of beauty. Featuring the prettiest flute solo you'll ever hear in an exploitation film and a chorus that sounds like it's being sung by actual zombies.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: While absolutely no attention is drawn to it or even mentioned, Martha the maid appears to be pregnant during her final scene in room 36 just before she is ruthlessly murdered (actress Veronica Lazar's children were born in the 60s, so it's not her actually pregnant).
  • Nightmare Retardant:
    • The man killed by tarantulas is played by Michele Mirabella, who later became a host of educational broadcasting and cheesy afternoon programmes on Italian TV. On the other hand, this scene could be Nightmare Fuel/Harsher in Hindsight for someone who watched Mirabella's shows as a child, and has fond memories of them.
    • The "DO NOT ENTRY" sign.
    • Or the infamous "reloading a gun by dropping bullets down the barrel" scene. Actor David Warbeck was doing it as a joke, which Fulci evidently didn't pick up on and so he left it in the take.
  • Vindicated by History: As usual for Lucio Fulci the film wasn’t too warmly received at the time of its release, though it did garner some good word of mouth. Nowadays you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who dislikes the film. In fact most zombie enthusiasts consider this to be up there with Romero’s films.
