YMMV / The Beatles Anthology

Go To

  • Narm: The parts of the documentary where Paul is being interviewed while piloting a boat for some reason or in front of a campfire at his estate.
  • Pandering to the Base: The albums (as well as the earlier Live at the BBC album) were largely compiled in response to the excessive bootlegs that existed of Beatles outtakes. It never stopped the bootlegging, as there is a ton of material not included, but it did bring forth high-quality versions of many popularly bootlegged tracks.
  • Refrain from Assuming: It's "What's the New Mary Jane", not "What a Shame Mary Jane Had a Pain at the Party".
  • Revival by Commercialization: The project was the music hype of 1995 and did a lot to boost their album sales.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The bridge of "Free as a Bird" ("Whatever happened to the life that we once knew?") has almost identical lyrics and melody to a memorable section in the 1964 Girl Group hit "Remember (Walkin' in the Sand)" by The Shangri-Las, later covered by Aerosmith ("Whatever happened to the boy that I once knew?")
  • Tear Jerker: George Martin's reaction to John Lennon's first demo for "A Day in the Life."
