- Overshadowed by Controversy: The Basketball Diaries is more notorious these days for allegedly inspiring several school shooters, including the Columbine shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. The controversial part in question involves the main character walking into his classroom in a Badass Longcoat and mowing down everyone he hates with a shotgun while his friends cheer him on. A school rampage wasn't even the main subject of the movie; this scene was actually a fantasy that the main character has as his drug addiction starts spiraling out of control.
