YMMV / The Ballad of Mulan

Go To

  • Common Knowledge: The story is commonly referred to as a myth and Mulan as a mythological figure when it is in fact a ballad, with there being no evidence of Mulan existing prior to the Northern Wei dynasty.
  • Memetic Mutation: The Chinese idiom pū shuò mí lí (撲朔迷離/扑朔迷离) originates from the last paragraph of the poem, which asks if one would be able to distinguish the sex of two rabbits if they are running together, in spite of their individual differences in appearance. The idiom itself is used to refer to something utterly puzzling.
