- Fan-Preferred Couple: In the books, Mr. Wolf has a crush on Agent Fox and the two develop mutual attraction as the series progresses, but a lot of fans prefer the chemistry between Mr. Wolf and Mr. Snake, especially because of a part in Book 5 depicting a jealous Snake thinking Mr. Wolf likes Agent Fox more than him. This continued into the film due to Mr. Snake's Platonic Declaration of Love and their climactic hug. While a lot of fans feel that the film versions of Mr. Wolf and Diane (an expy of Agent Fox) have better chemistry than their book counterparts, Wolf/Snake remains the most popular ship in the fandom.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
- The book series is Australian-made, but is extremely popular in the United States. The series quickly landed on the New York Times' best seller list, leading to its movie adaptation by DreamWorks Animation.
- The movie was a big hit in Spain, where it was #1 at the box office for two weeks, beating out The Batman (2022). It was also a huge hit in China, where its box office surpassed those of Encanto, Moana, and Toy Story 4.
- Idiosyncratic Ship Naming: The book fandom coined the term "FluffyVenom" for shipping Mr. Wolf and Mr. Snake together. This carried over to the movie fandom, despite Mr. Snake not being venomous in the adaption; for this reason, it's sometimes known as "FluffySqueeze".
- Periphery Demographic:
- Despite the book series being meant for intermediate readers, a good amount of adults, especially parents that bought the books for their children, are fans of the series, thanks to the humor and plots resonating well with older audiences.
- In much the same way, the film was popular with parents thanks to its humor, characters, animation, and clever nods to classic heist films.
Books:
- Arc Fatigue: Dr. Marmalade is introduced in the second book and becomes the Big Bad in the third. He's finally removed in the tenth. The books are quick reads, slightly alleviating this, but it still can feel as if the team makes little to no progress while he's around.
- Ho Yay: Mr. Snake's jealousy of Mr. Wolf's attraction towards Agent Fox is easy to read as him being romantically attracted towards Wolf and jealous that Fox is Wolf's target of interest rather than himself.
- Ugly Cute: The main characters are stereotypical scary predators with pretty gnarly designs. However, their endearing personalities give them a sympathetic and goofy edge, lending them charm as well.
