• Broken Base:
  • The series itself. While the series is definitely well-liked by Spidey fans, some point out that it was just an attempt from Marvel to stop fans' complaints about a married Spider-Man, with this group being very vocal about wanting the events of One More Day to be undone in the main Marvel universe.
  • The idea of Mary Jane participating directly in crime-fighting with Peter. Some feel it's a fresh and unique take for the character, allowing her to be more active in the other half of Peter's life and opening up tons of new plot ideas. Others feel like Mary Jane being a superhero does not fit with her character, and that she could still have been a useful and important character in her own right without superpowers. Reception to MJ as a superhero in this series, however, has become more fondly remembered after she became one in the Earth-616 universe as Jackpot – which was considerably less well-received.
  • The Time Skip. There are fans who saw it as a good change, with some viewing it as creating a worthy (if short-lived) successor to the Spider-Girl series. Others argue that the appeal of the book came from Peter and Mary Jane raising a rambunctious super-powered kid, and skipping over her childhood to turn her into yet another teenage super-heroine ruins that.
• Friendly Fandoms: With Superman (Rebirth) due to having very similar premises. A Fan-Preferred Couple gets back together after many years of Executive Meddling and has to balance superheroing, making ends meet, and teaching their perky superpowered child the ins-and-outs of superheroing.
• Older Than They Think: While it was widely welcomed as an interesting take, some fans balked at Mary Jane Watson as Spinneret since she's a civilian female Love Interest to a male hero, and it's considered weird and unusual for her to become a hero in her own right, but there is in fact precedent for this. In the case of Shiera Hall, the Golden Age Hawkgirl, it's often forgotten that in her first appearances she started out as simply the civilian girlfriend of Carter Hall. Only after they started dating for a bit that very early on, writer Gardner Fox decided to make her Hawkwoman and Hall's confidant and superhero partner in equal measure. Thanks to her appearance in Justice League, Shayera Hol (as she was styled there) has actually displaced and overshadowed the character for whom she was fashioned as a Satellite Love Interest.
• The Scrappy: The Regent was seen by some readers as a boring Darkseid expy who just wants to collect powers. When he became a Canon Immigrant to the main universe, shock of all shocks, he was still widely disliked.
• Signature Scene:
  • The opening scene showing Peter/MJ/Annie bantering around the kitchen which establishes the family dynamic at the heart of this comic.
  • MJ telling Annie a bedtime story which is about Peter's origins and especially the final Lies to Children bit is considered to be the most poignant moment in the original story, while also demonstrating the inevitability of Parental Hypocrisy and baggage that comes from raising a kid in a superhero setting.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: One of the main criticisms early on for the new ongoing series is that the story arcs tended to be too short and rushed to the conclusion, ending within only two issues. This turned out to be the result of Executive Meddling, as Conway never wanted to do those plots to begin with and thus wanted them out of the way as quickly as possible.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Power Pack show up and do not participate in a final battle with the Regent in the miniseries. They also aren't so much as mentioned in the ongoing.
