YMMV / The Agonist

  • Crazy Is Cool: Alissa auditioning on Canadian Idol (no, really) as a joke - and getting through. She didn't make it to the live shows because she refused to sign an exclusivity contract (the band already being signed to Century Media at the time).
    • Her exact words? "I'm not signing shit."
    • Simon, the band's drummer, just seems to be Crazy Cool in general.
  • Epic Riff: Danny's riffs were so epic that they needed a second guitarist to help play them for some live shows. And then Paco joined the band and added even more epic riffing.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Ever since Alissa left, fans of the band now have a fierce rivalry with Arch Enemy's fanbase.
  • Growing the Beard: Lullabies for the Dormant Mind. Once Only Imagined was far from bad, but Lullabies really started to define their sound and is noticeably better because of it.
    • Their third album Prisoners combines the heaviness of Once Only Imagined with the progressive elements of Lullabies and adds a few creative twists of its own. It is generally regarded as the band's best work so far, and certainly their most mature. Unfortunately, the band themselves tend to disagree and the members think it went way overboard. Eye of Providence and Five scaled back accordingly, relying more on catchy riffs and Vicky's impressive vocal range. The Darker and Edgier Orphans is a leap back into the experimental heaviness of Lullabies and Prisoners but with a bit of a preference for emphasis rather than complexity.
    • Meanwhile Paco provides a much more literal example.
  • Memetic Mutation: Paco's beard.
  • Signature Song: Well, it's hard to pick just one.
    • For the White-Gluz era: "Business Suits and Combat Boots", "...And Their Eulogies Sang Me to Sleep", or "Thank You, Pain".
    • For the Psarakis era: "Disconnect Me", "Gates of Horn and Ivory", "My Witness, Your Victim", or "In Vertigo".
