YMMV / The Adventures of Pluto Nash

Go To

  • Ass Pull: The reveal that Rex Crater is a clone of Pluto. The only foreshadowing for it comes in the opening scene with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line about Pluto getting out of prison, but nothing is mentioned about him getting his appendix removed, nor how Mike Marucchi knew about Pluto and how he could have gotten his hands on his appendix to clone him. That explanation is given in an Exposition Dump after the reveal, and is still far from satisfying anyway
  • Bile Fascination: Not only for being another audience-alienating early 2000's Eddie Murphy film, but for its truly spatial tanking.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The scene where Michael Zoroaster Marucci is shown having accidentally killed an interviewer got extremely awkward after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while filming Rust in 2021.
  • Hollywood Homely: This is a movie where Rosario Dawson gets body shamed. Yeah.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Although this movie is set in the future, it acts as if Hillary Rodham Clinton became President of the United States (she lost the Democratic Party nomination to Barack Obama in 2008 and the general election to Donald Trump in 2016note ) and presents AOL as a serious company (as of 2020, AOL is still around, but very few Americans still use AOL's very dated dial-up service to connect to the Internet).
