YMMV / The Adventures of Batman & Robin E18 "Make 'Em Laugh"

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Condiment King only appeared as a joke villain in the opening scene, but due to the utterly ridiculous nature of the character, he proved popular enough to make appearances in the mainstream DCU (though with a completely different appearance and personality) and cameos in The LEGO Batman Movie. He even became a playable character in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and LEGODC Super Villains.
  • Fashion-Victim Villain: The Condiment King makes Riddler's redesign look runway worthy. He dresses in a truly ridiculous costume that looks like it was pulled out of a Goodwill dumpster, and which has a pickle headpiece and literal Underwear of Power—a set of briefs worn over the pants. The same goes for the Pack Rat: the guy was wearing tights and a literal mouse costume.
  • Funny Moments: The joke villains created by Joker in this episode can actually be quite funny, especially the famous, scene-stealing Condiment King.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The Joker uses microchips to alter the minds of innocents to make them criminals. Then comes Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Also from Return of the Joker, Terry, who took a page out of Peter Parker's book, slanders Joker's act by saying that he should aim for pants-dropping or face-making for better results. Terry may not have known it at the time, but he was absolutely right; the only times the Joker really got the laughs he wanted was when he was the butt of the joke instead of other people, and both of Terry's listed examples happened here, with the pants-dropping even being courtesy of the original Batman.
  • Memetic Loser: The Condiment King became popular only because he's one of the most ridiculous and pathetic villains to ever appear in the entire Batman franchise, which is saying a lot.
  • Narm: The moment Batman and Robin recognize "Smilin' Shecky Rimshot" as the Joker comes when they stop the footage of the Laugh-Off, and digitally remove his hat and add different hair. However, "Shecky's" voice as he's being pulled off-stage and threatening revenge ("You can't do this to me! I'm the greatest comic in Gotham!) gave it away right then (the B:TAS Joker has a pretty unique voice, courtesy of Mark Hamill, who uses a different voice for the "Shecky" disguise).
    • Poor Robin being outright spanked by one of the villains. Scenes like that make it easy to see why some fans saw the Boy Wonder as a joke early on.
