- Peter Neal once murdered a woman for humiliating him as a youth and repressed a vicious bloodlust ever since. Inspired by the killings of his reader Christiano Berti, Neal assists Berti, only to dispose of him before going on a brutal killing spree of his own. Murdering his agent, his wife, and her lover, along with the police and trying to murder remaining inspectors and his own lover Anne, Neal intends to go on and commit as many atrocities as he can to craft the "perfect" novel.
- Christiano Berti is a journalist who secretly loathes those he deems social deviants. Inspired by Peter Neal's novel Tenebrae, Berti starts to murder everybody he doesn't like, starting by shoving pages of the book down a shoplifter's throat and slitting her throat. After butchering a critic and her girlfriend for criticizing Tenebrae, Berti hacks a teenage girl to death when she finds the snuff photos he took. When Neal confronts Berti and confirms his own homicidal tendencies, Berti announces he intends to keep killing before proposing the two go on a murder spree together.
- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Inspector Germani, the affable but perceptive detective whose practical in acknowledging that the evidence seems to clear Peter and also has a humorous quirks of being poor at solving mystery novels before the ending.
- Maria is praised for some powerful acting and Action Survivor moments during the sequence where she’s chased by the dog and ends up in the killers house by accident, with some considering that the movies Signature Scene.
- Narm: During the make out scene between Tilde and Marion, the actress playing the former has a facial expression clearly showing that she is uncomfortable with kissing another woman.
