  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: Tekken 6's plot is regularly lambasted as the nosedive point of the series writing and the Scenario Campaign that contains the bulk of it is regarded as largely boring. When it comes to the actual fighting however, 6 is regarded as a solid follow-up to 5 that has a wide diversity of characters and stages, expands the customization features to incredibly enormous possibilities and introduces the now staple rage mechanic to spice up round-to-round gameplay.
  • Porting Disaster: While the PSP version of 6 is still playable and overall looks impressive for a handheld console port, it comes with a severe graphic downgrade, the absence of the Scenario Campaign and severely reduced character customization options, among others. That said, it still adds the Gold Rush game mode from the Dark Resurrection port of Tekken 5 and also expands a little bit on the characters' story modes.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The setup of the story is Kazuya putting a bounty on the now war criminal Jin's head, with Jin in turn announcing the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 in retaliation. With this you'd think the story would build to a dramatic rematch between father and son, right? Wrong, this doesn't happen until two games later. In actuality, the story in 6 is about Lars Alexandersson, the leader of a Tekken Force rebellion going on a journey to defeat Jin instead. Kazuya ends up being a footnote for a majority of the story and nothing ultimately comes from his and G Corp's role in the war.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Jin's Faceā€“Heel Turn is controversial for many reasons, but perhaps most for his motivations. He plunged the world into chaos to awaken Azazel early and rid himself of the Devil Gene once and for all. The issue is that it's not made clear why Jin even needed to accelerate the awakening to begin with, making it seem like he started a bloody world war just to selfishly get rid of his own demonic issues faster. It doesn't help that Tekken 7 reveals that his plan fails as Azazel still lived and needed to be sealed inside Zafina's arm.
    • Nina's speech to Lars about whether or not Jin's actions could truly be considered good or evil also tends to fall on deaf ears. For many Jin's actions are unambiguosly evil and not worth the pay off of eliminating the Devil Gene, and Nina comes off as a Holier Than Thou hypocrite.
