YMMV / TekWar

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Warren Zevon's Are you Real Or Not?
  • Bizarro Episode: TekLab has a plot to restore the British monarchy and the theft of Excalibur, that is apparently a real sword in this universe. It ties into Tek with the Tek Lords being behind it all at the end.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Hillary Clinton is stated to have served four terms as President.
  • Les Yay: Cassandra Del Amo has this with Sam's cover identity in "Deep Cover." To the point of Cassandra being Ambiguously Gay.
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: Being featured on the podcast 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back helped sales of the first book.
  • That One Level: The Cyberspace level from the video game is nothing less than a complete assault on the senses. Bright, rapidly flickering colors, a maze-like layout, puzzles that don't really make sense, and irritating sound effects, like the computerized voice repeating "Virus detected!" ad nauseam.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The videogame adaptation was an early FPS on the Build Engine (the same engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D) and is considered one of the worst games to ever run on the Engine (and that's saying a lot), with graphics crunched into hideous pixelated unrecognizability, clunky and irritating gameplay, and some utterly dreadful level design. The game also features FMV sequences with William Shatner chewing you out if you kill too many enemies, despite killing bad guys being the point of the game, which gets annoying fast; and a seizure-inducing final mission in cyberspace full of garish visuals and confusing objectives.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Beth Kittridge's gynoid doppeleganger would have given her actress a lot more to do.
    • Electra from "Unknown Soldier" was a very popular character and unfortunately was Too Cool to Live.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The War on Drugs is now viewed very differently with the idea of a show devoted to a Black-and-White Morality view of cops vs. drug dealers being significantly less one-sided.
    • Cosmos is a Private Military Contractor organization in the movies and series (versus private detectives in the books), so they have shades of a MegaCorp. They're the good guys. Needless to say, people look at corporate mercenaries a bit differently these days.
  • Values Resonance:
    • It's clear that neither Cardigan or Bascom actually hold any disdain for Tek users or even lower level dealers. Instead, their aims are entirely focused on the terrorist TekLords.
    • The unlimited authority given to the Tek Posse by the federal government quickly gives rise to Police Brutality and innocent victims.
