YMMV / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Manhattan Project

  • Awesome Music: Konami brought their A game with the soundtrack. Some popular tracks include Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 4, Stage 5, and all of the boss themes.
  • Breather Boss: Ground Chuck. He has a lot of pause times where you can attack him from a range without worrying of a sudden counter attack. This is the easiest boss to not lose health (i.e. not use your special attack) when played right and without exploiting the A.I. Also, he can't hit turtles hanging off the ledge.
  • Even Better Sequel: Arguably the best TMNT game on the NES, fixing some of the shortcomings with the second game.
  • Funny Moments: The intro to Dirtbag's fight starts with him rushing into the subway tunnel with his mine cart... only for him to go too fast and leave the screen, causing the boss theme to Fade Out before he comes back in.
  • Game-Breaker: The Turtles' special moves. While they drain 1 bar (out of 16), you can use them without dying once you reach 1 bar. Not only do the special moves do very high damage that will instantly kill most regular enemies, but they leave the turtles invincible during the frames. Raphael and Michaelangelo can get out of bad situations, while Donatello and Leonardo can hit bosses 2-3 times per use. The price to pull off special moves become trivial.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The cover art is infamously known for having Casey Jones and a Triceraton on it, even though they aren't in the game. Both would appear for real in the TMNT beat-em-up Shredder's Revenge, decades after the fact.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: Easily considered one of the best beat-em-ups on the NES, due to how much it improves on its predecessor.
  • That One Boss:
    • Leatherhead will cause a lot of problems, due to how aggressive he is. With the water pit accounted for, you're given little room to dodge his attacks.
    • Shredder at the end of Stage 6. One of the least predictable bosses up until that point. This also happens to be the fight after what was thought to be the level's boss.
