YMMV / Ted Bundy

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Ted have actual feelings (or at least some kind of approximation of them) for Lee? He stays with her, even though his life would be much easier without her, up until his first arrest, and even then she was the one who dumped him, and there are several scenes where he is unusually forthcoming and vulnerable while with her, like after the mugging and the first rape, and when he reveals to her his tumultuous upbringing and insecurities over being a "bastard."
  • Audience-Alienating Premise: It is a biopic about an infamous real-life serial killer, rapist, and necrophile that is, for the most part, a screwball Black Comedy.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: After Ted's execution, we get a warped parody of the ending of Malcolm X in which a montage of children (including a little girl holding a dead cat) shout "I'm Ted Bundy" while being run through a Photoshop Filter of Evil.
  • Broken Base: Whether the film is a harrowing and uncompromising exploration of Bundy's life and crimes, or merely exploitative shlock that practically glamorizes him. While the "study vs. sensationalism" argument can be applied to a lot of true crime films, this one gets it particularly bad due to the odd Alas, Poor Villain ending.
  • Special Effects Failure: The bludgeon that Ted whacks the mugging victim with is unnaturally bendy and obviously made of rubber and not wood.
  • Funny Moments: Ted making stupid noises in the mirror; meant to be a creepy scene, but it comes off as silly, instead.
