YMMV / Swan Lake (1981)

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Odile, as usual. She's liked for her snarky personality and vampy design.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: It gets this reaction from some viewers, due to its runtime being very truncated. The movie clocks in at barely over an hour, being seventy-five minutes long.
  • Narm: The first English dub is positively full of this, due to the incredibly stilted voice acting and Siegfried's voice being high enough to make him sound borderline prepubescent. Special mention goes to the part where Rothbart threatens Siegfried at sword-point, as the former sounds utterly monotone and bored instead of menacing. (The second dub has somewhat better voice direction, if only because Siegfried's voice is lower and the characters sound more emotional and less wooden.)
  • The Scrappy: Hans and Margarita are generally disliked by viewers for being unneeded Non Human Sidekicks with high-pitched, grating voices whose antics don't contribute anything to the plot.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Siegfried and Odette have known each other for barely five minutes before he's getting down on one knee, declaring his love, and asking her to come to the ball the next night so he can choose her as his bride. While Odette does later tell Rothbart that she was pining for Siegfried from afar for the past three years in captivity, it still comes off as ridiculously rushed because of how little time they spend together (probably even more so than in the ballet, where they at least had a Dance of Romance first).
  • The Woobie: Odette, even more so than usual. Her home kingdom was destroyed by Rothbart, who kidnapped her, turned her into a swan so no one else could have her, and has kept her a prisoner in his castle for three years to try to force her into marrying him.
