YMMV / Supreme

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Optilux is treated as though he is The Dreaded among Supreme's foes, but at one point Suprema defeats him with glitter.
  • Arc Fatigue: Early in the original run, Supreme battles Thor and steals his hammer. Supreme loses his powers, and has to use mjolnir to substitute them. The entire rest of the comic revolves around the consequences of this, to the point where Loki becomes the Big Bad of the entire story.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Many fans of Moore's run choose to ignore Larsen's version.
  • Funny Moments:
    • The Televillain invades an episode of Friends and kills Monica (although in the real world Courtney Cox was unharmed). When he's prevented from going back into TV land, a group of citizens recognize him as "the guy who shot Monica" and beat the crap out of him.
    • When Supreme goes to fight Korgo at the White House, Korgo's so eager to get away from Hilary Clinton he throws the fight.
Korgo: UNNGH! Your Strength Supreme... knocking me senseless! Can't... fight back... anymore... [whispers]Thank you, hated one. Korgo owes you.
Supreme: [whispers back]Ah, forget it. It's okay. [shouts]There, tyrant! That seals your defeat!
  • Growing the Beard: Alan Moore's reinvention of Supreme from issue #41 onwards has eclipsed everything that came before it in reputation, and is invariably the first thing that comes to mind when people think of the series.
  • My Real Daddy: Even among fans of the original version, it's generally agreed that Moore's run is the definitive interpretation. Thanks in no small part to the vastly expanded mythos, world and cast of characters.
  • Tear Jerker: Wild Bill's decision to change history to win his love's heart may have been wildly misguided, but the resolution of it is heartbreaking all the same. Witch Woman casts a spell to disguise Futurewoman as Jessie, the woman Bill loves. She stands so that, when Bill sees her, he's facing away from the door. She says, "Bill, I... I love you, Bill." He says, "Oh Jessie..." Both of them have tears in their eyes, and then Achilles puts a bullet in Bill's skull.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Larson himself acknowledged that trying to make more Supreme after Moore's run, especially when ostensibly set in the same continuity, was definitely going to be difficult. The poor critical reception combined with low sales proved this.
