YMMV / Superman's Pal: Jimmy Olsen (2019)

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • When Dr. Mantel forces Jimmy to return to normal space after Dr. Mantel gets caught in a black hole, is his primary motive to save Jimmy's life, or to get his signal watch (to which Dr. Mantel tethered himself) to a place where the doctor can reemerge safely?
    • The series heavily implies that Jimmy had casually figured out that Bruce Wayne is Batman, but the irreverent nature of the Timmy Olsen persona makes it ambiguous.
  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: Superman's "Secret Super-Powers". He's either scraping the bottom of the barrel for any semblance of impressive never-before-seen "abilities" to boost Jimmy's views, or he legitimately thinks that most of what he's claiming to be able to do are genuinely cool. After all, it really wouldn't be out of character for a Humble Hero like Superman to want to try out card tricks only to be dorkily inept at it. Either option is equally funny.
  • Crazy Is Cool: The series takes the Silver Age insanity of Jimmy's previous series and runs with it, resulting in Jimmy doing things such as turning into a turtle while skydiving from orbit and declaring a prank war on Batman. Some people consider it his best appearance in years as a result.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Superman isn't good at lip-reading, needing three or four chances to guess what someone is saying. Naturally — how many chances would someone with Super-Hearing have to practice the skill?
