• Hilarious in Hindsight: Morgan Edge fires a lot of the Daily Planet reporters, including Clark. Morgan Edge is portrayed as a ruthless corporate shark. Once it's revealed that Edge is actually Tal-Rho, Clark's older half-brother, you realize that he actually unintentionally fired his own brother, despite a relationship with his younger brother being the thing he wants most in the world.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Firing Clark kicks off the series of events that lead to Edge's Smallville Kryptonian resurrection plan failing. Instead of being in Metropolis reporting on big city news and saving the day from big city crime, Lois has plenty of time to notice the shady bank deals and missing persons and Clark is around to stop the super powered people who manifest around town.
