YMMV / Superman (2023)

  • Awesome Art: Jamal Campbell's art for the series has been universally praised. It's colorful, dynamic, and breathtaking while condensing pages of exposition down to a few images. Special attention goes to Marilyn Moonlight's introduction, which plays with shadows and textures as she illuminates the darkened corridors of the Daily Planet's office.
  • Complete Monster: Dr. Pharm is a callous scientist and rival to Lex Luthor himself, planning to upstage and ruin Lex. Pharm kidnaps and horrifically experiments on hundreds of homeless people to carry out his plans. Pharm torturously experiments on Parasite to cause him to multiply and drain people of energy and endanger Metropolis. Pharm later experiments on and amplifies Silver Banshee's scream, against her will, to attack the city. Later capturing Toyman, Pharm tortures him to take control of his robots and try and destroy the city. Pharm ultimately attacks LexCorp and reveals that he plans to unleash a lethal Kryptonite-infused virus on the city and blame the resultant mass casualties on Lex to ruin his reputation, all out of spite.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Williamson's The Flash (2016). Williamson's stated his goal with Superman is to take the same approach he did with Barry Allen and the Speedsters in terms of touching on as many elements and corners of the mythos as possible and moving forward with them rather than backward.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: During Annual #1, Livewire easily defeats and re-imprisons Red Cloud, a prominent but notoriously disliked villain from Brian Michael Bendis' run, when she breaks out of prison and tries to kill Lois.
  • Tear Jerker: In issue #4, Luthor directs Superman towards "Old Metropolis", revealing that the city is constantly being rebuilt on top of various ruins of all the times the city's been destroyed in events like The Death of Superman or The Fall of Metropolis.
