YMMV / Superboy (1949)

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • The cover of issue #55 features Superboy getting spanked by the principal. Extra points for said principal being good ol' Pa Kent, both Clark and the kids watching having surprisingly giddy faces, and the issue being titled "The Secret of Smallville High".
    • In #36, Lana Lang is adopted by the Kents for a brief period of time. In the cover, featuring Superboy carving a turkey and cutting it into thin slices, we have the next dialogue:
      Superboy: "Meat coming up, Lana!"
      Lana Lang: (thinking)
Gosh, it's wonderful having Superboy for your brother!''
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Pete Ross goes to great lengths to protect Clark Kent's secret, while letting nobody -including Clark- in on the fact that he is aware of said secret. Usually, scenes wherein Pete pretended to fall for Clark's stupid excuses were played for laughs, but they stopped being funny considering that Pete Ross was killed after being tortured into revealing Clark's secret identity in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?; and Clark never knew about his childhood buddy's level of loyalty before his death.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In #162, Clark wakes up one night, looks out the window, and exclaims, "Good grief! The Aurora Borealis-- the northern lights-- ... appearing in the-- west!?" This was decades before another character got baffled by the idea of the Aurora Borealis appearing in an unusual location.
