YMMV / Super Shark

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
  • Awesome Music:
  • Cliché Storm: The film is filled with clichés from not only the killer shark genre, but Kaiju cinema as well.
  • Rule of Cool: The very premise of the film. As much as it tries to Hand Wave its less believable elements, it’s pretty clear that this trope is the true dictator of the plot.
  • Scenery Porn: If nothing else, the film does have some good looking underwater- and coastal shots.
  • Signature Scene: If people remember any part of this film, it’s seeing the giant shark fighting a Walking Tank, on land!
  • So Bad, It's Good: The film can be quite entertaining in how sheer ridiculous it can get.
  • Special Effects Failure:
    • Super Shark is obviously Conspicuous CG in every scene it appears, be it as a Shark Fin of Doom followed by digital waves jarringly superimposed over real ocean footage, or a full model with stiff, janky and often plain impossible movements. The tank they fight is just as fake-looking.
    • On a very different note, the photos shown during the beach shoot are clearly still frames from the video, with a blurry, out-of-focus look no professional model photographer would be satisfied with.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: The overall production seems to play the concept far more straight than the visuals ended up deserving, almost to the point of Bathos. As mentioned on the main page, Sarah Lieving actually managed to win an award for her performance in what was basically the modern equivalent of The Giant Claw.
  • Villain Has a Point: As Roger tells Kat ”Impersonating a government agent in order to harass or intimidate a civilian can wind you up in jail.” His reasons for pointing this out may be entirely selfish, and Kat’s motives may be more noble, but this doesn’t change the fact that he is absolutely right.
