YMMV / Super Powereds

Go To

  • Fanfic Fuel: As the story focuses mainly on the Superhero School and the titular Powereds there are enough of these to fill an entire Expanded Universe. There are four other HPC’s that we only get glimpses of which each have their own students and Noteworthy Alumni such as Titan in Corpies. The Superhero career of the main characters during the ten year Time Skip, the SSA.
    • For Anime and Manga fans other countries have their own ways of accrediting a person for Hero work, and there is not yet enough consensus on an international programs for a Hero to work in another country with that government’s permission.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Vince's moments of Tranquil Fury are a sight to behold. In book 3 after one of the Sons of Progress kills Sasha Vince uses his powers to absorb the kinetic energy straight from the guy's heart, preventing it from pumping blood. Luckily Camille was able to talk him down.
  • Romantic Plot Tumor: The story is often described as "bloated" and "overly long" by critics, because of the obscene amounts of focus the story has on the protagonists' love life. The worst offender of this is Vince. Maybe it's because True Love Is Boring, or because Camille was so obviously the right girl, that their Will They or Won't They? kinda fell flat, and it didn't help that their inevitable hook-up was delayed by not just one, but two romantic false leads.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The Powered cure turns out to have been developed by reverse-engineering the original Intra's powers from his corpse. This raises a lot of interesting questions, both morally and logistically—how exactly was it engineered and can they repeat the process without the source material, which is destroyed in the climax of Book 4? It could have to be lead into some sort of Chekhov's Gunman Heroic Sacrifice situation with Chad, who inherited his father's ability... in fact, it would have provided a great turning point between the good and bad futures—is the cure taken by force again, or given willingly? But then the cure is neatly glossed over and the two futures just get a vague Sequel Hook in the Distant Epilogue.
