YMMV / Super Kirby Clash

Go To

  • Best Boss Ever: After decades of absence, players get the chance to fight a parallel counterpart to one of the first Kirby final bosses that most people ever played against, all with new moves and tactics: Nightmare, and with no less than three remixes of his theme during all of this. And of course, Galacta Knight - or rather, Aeon Hero, with upgraded attacks that are tricky to outmaneuver.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: Other than trying a new or particularly hard battle, there is little to no reason to select the Sword Hero or Dr. Healmore when going for high scores due to their rather average attack power. Their main abilities, respectively Invulnerable Attack and Healing Hands, become irrelevant once you know the bosses' attack patterns and doing any mistake is out the table. Meanwhile, the combination of Beam Mage's Time Stands Still and Hammer Lord's raw power is everything you need to annihilate most bosses under the absurdly tight time requirement.
  • Epileptic Trees:
    • Aeon Hero (Dark) can summon a rain of Heart Spears as an attack. Considering the Heart Spears were a vital backstory element in Star Allies, Aeon Hero's ability to call them at will has interesting implications. Even moreso since Aeon Hero is basically Galacta Knight, a warrior who canonically transcends time and space.
    • Just how many more "Parallel" versions of fallen Kirby antagonists are out there? Ignoring the ones from Kirby Star Allies note , the Parallel bosses in the Kirby clash series seem to either be corrupted counterparts of their originals or are alternate versions of antagonists from past games, which leads to a lot of possibilities.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Given what Nightmare said in the Japanese version of the anime, it's no surprise that the Another Dimension version arrives to wreak havoc.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • You may be surprised by the damage having Hammer Lord accompanied by three Beam Mages can do. Three Beam Mages make a bigger chance of stopping time, allowing Hammer Lord to hit the enemy with everything they have. Alternatively, doing the opposite (one mage and three hammers) is also quite effective especially if you play solo with AI who can be unreliable with throwing fully charged beams but know to fully charge their hammers when the enemy is frozen still.
    • Once you get higher tier gear with fast charge times, just running 4 Beam Mages is extremely viable. You won't need a healer because the enemy keeps getting frozen, easily allowing you to get platinum medals on every quest. Even though the AI can be unreliable, they'll still throw out Time Beams left and right, and lots of them due to how fast they can charge. Once you have the DX or SDX versions of either the Platinum or Starlight Gear, your crew will basically be unstoppable.
  • Goddamned Boss:
    • Every boss with a blocking or retreating move are this, due to the timer. In the Planet Robobot version, the timer was never a big concern outside of score runs, but this game, like in Deluxe makes it harder to grind, it feels a lot more strict. For stall-happy bosses such as Blocky and Whispy Woods, the clock is more of a threat than the fight itself, unless you want to fork over Gem Apples for a 30-second extension.
    • Pyribbit returns as one of its encounters, and it's just as annoying as it was in Triple Deluxe and the previous Kirby Clash games. Like last time, as noted above, you're on a time limit on top of its normal tendencies.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the new gear for Sword Hero in this game is the Morpho Doomblade, based on Morpho Knight from Kirby Star Allies. Fast forward to Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and the same gear appears again as an evolution for Sword, unlocked for defeating Morpho Knight at the end of the post-game.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Pretty much every sound that plays when using Team Meteor, but especially the one for landing a perfect on the moving circle.
  • That One Achievement:
    • This game introduces a ton of crazy Heroic Missions, which include beating the Final Boss with Beginner gearnote , or most upper achievements related to shopping or spending Gem Apples, which is hard to complete quickly without spending money.
    • In particular one of the Super Party Quests has a Heroic Mission for beating Taranza (Super) in combat without sustaining damage, and it is as garbage as it sounds.
    • A more traditional nightmare of a Heroic Mission is beating Pyribbit EX in 40 seconds. He's already a bulky high-tier foe, but he will also spend at least 20 in-game seconds after becoming furious attacking from the background, effectively cutting your time limit in half. The same can also be said for any timed mission against Taranza, who has multiple forms of attack in the background, including one directly after going furious.
    • A similar mission is The Final Battle in under 50 seconds, especially with AI partners. While Parallel Nightmare's Revenge is fairly easy, he will move out of range quite frequently during the first few seconds, giving you very little time to burn through his health. The real big threat, Aeon Hero, will cause the most issues with this mission due to his oftentimes erratic behavior resulting in Collision Damage and the sheer incompetency of your AI Beam Mages being unable to get a time stop on him. Bringing in other human players on Share Play can help significantly, but that doesn't change the fact that you need DPS well beyond the recommended level of 57 to beat the timer.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Super Kirby Clash is the first game to give Landia fully modeled teeth. Those expecting his cutesy, toothless look are in for a surprise when he opens his mouth.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Nightmare appearing in some capacity for the first time in 3D in Super Kirby Clash was a huge surprise for longtime fans, as Nightmare had made no significant appearance in any game outside of his debut game, its remake, and a sub-game in Kirby Mass Attack.
    • Downplayed, but many fans were decently shocked that Parallel Susie appeared in the Castle Village over her mainline self.
