• Crack Pairing: If Penny goes unromanced by Ruby, she will end up in a polyamory relationship with Ren and Nora (primarily Nora). While Gingersnaps (Penny X Nora) is a real ship it's practically unheard of in fan works and the RWBY fandom as a whole, especially since Penny is primarily only shipped with Ruby.
• Memetic Mutation: Weiss is a fragile, delicate flower!^Explanation If the player fails to collect a number of flags, starting from before even meeting her, Weiss will not return when she goes back to Michglas to heal. The difficulty of keeping lead to the developers releasing a guide for it.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • Luna Fracta crossed this when she murder Ruby's parents to spite Crescent Rose.
  • Crescent Rose almost crossed this when she tried to kill Ozpin. Thankfully, Ruby and the court members stopped her. However, had she succeeded, Ruby likely wouldn't be accepting of her help and Crescent probably would have never had her Heel Realization.
• Nightmare Fuel: The macabre theatre where Penny is found is very creepy, thanks to both the amazing art and exceptional writing painting a very terrifying moment, even the Grimm mostly fail to live up too.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Ruby can meet with Blake in the library where she learns that her parent's laws making writing education compulsory didn't apply to the faunus, she is left wondering if her parents were bigoted or just indifferent, tarnishing their memories for her.
  • If Blake accompanies the player to the secret lab, she finds books filled with the records of Faunus who were used for the experiments there, and laments that having these records written down like this is more than many of her own friends who have vanished over the years have, showing just how bad life is for her people in this world.
  • Ruby is forced to watch helplessly as Crescent Rose emotionally abuses one of her closest friends using her body during the Act II climax, and then spends much of Act III trying to repair the damage that was done.
  • During act III Ruby finally can't handle all the stress when her step father treats her like a visiting diplomat instead of his daughter, she breaks down crying.
• The Woobie: Ruby – after losing her parents to a Grimm attack and hiding in the desert for years, she still can’t seem to catch a break.
