- Awesome Music: Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys provides six different original songs to the movie's soundtrack, each one of them pure Sweet Dreams Fuel with a slight hint of Tear Jerker.
- Funny Moments:
- Oliver imagining his death as a tragic moment that would garner a level of attention rivaling that of Princess Diana is already amusing on its own considering his overinflated ego, but he concludes his fantasy with him somehow coming back from the dead. Doubly funny is him being dressed like Obi-Wan.Oliver: Don't ask how I did it. Just know that I've come back stronger than ever before.
- Oliver vomits on Graham's van out of spite for him, but then it starts raining, which washes it away. Oliver is hilariously offended.

- Jerkass Woobie:
- Oliver may be self-centered, egotistical, and insensitive, but he also has a troubled home life and is clearly suffering from mild depression due to constant bullying and an overall feeling of purposelessness.
- Jordana is a relatively unpleasant girl who takes pleasure in bullying other students, including her own boyfriend Oliver, but it becomes clear that she's struggling to cope with her mother having cancer. By the time she's lost her dog and begins to defrost into a more vulnerable person, she becomes The Woobie.
- Just Here for Godzilla: Many Arctic Monkeys fans tuned in to the movie to hear Alex Turner's contributions to the soundtrack.
- Spiritual Predecessor: Considering the majority of the movie involves the romance between two emotionally stunted, mentally unhealthy British teenagers with troubled home lives, one can consider this film an inspiration for The End of the F***ing World.
- Spiritual Successor: LS Mark thinks this is a better fourth Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie than Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.
- Tear Jerker: Oliver's conversation with his father, which subtly reveals that the latter may be suffering from depression and he knows it makes him appear less approachable and desirable to Oliver's mother.
