• Nightmare Fuel:
  • All the wartime horrors in the series and the fact the soldiers are so desensitized they treat them as normal.
  • And then there's the things that even the soldiers aren't desensitized enough, such as the cholera outbreak.
  • "Pusher" Heinz getting the entire battalion addicted... With the officers' approval, as before his arrival the soldiers were finally about to mutiny over how horribly they were being treated but now only care for more drugs.
• Nausea Fuel: At one point, the Sergeant tries to humiliate the 27th Battalion by forcing them to clean the latrine pit using their hands. Not only they obey without much disgust but they also talk about that time in the Penal units when a captain forced them to clean his spit with their tongues.
