YMMV / Stitch! The Movie

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Disney has used a frame from the scene of Lilo and Stitch holding hands as they walk towards Lahui Beach in official licensed merchandise, so presumably some fans who only watched and/or prefer the original film (which has an equivalent moment)note  have bought them.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Sparky is really only used to help tell the story about how and why Lilo and Stitch began hunting down experiments to reform, but he's too freakishly adorable and awesome to ignore.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • When Stitch and Sparky first bond and become "cousins" after the latter was captured. While in Lilo and Stitch's bedroom, the yellow alien repeats Stitch's actions—moving his ears up and down, exposing his lower pair of arms, and picking his nose with his tongue—which causes the blue alien to be happy to have found someone just like him.
Stitch: Oh... (retracts his lower arms, runs up to the vase Sparky is trapped in, and hugs it) cousin!
    • And later, when Sparky returns the favor when he saves Stitch from Hämsterviel's cloning machine.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Lilo is practically thrust into a Sadistic Choice by Hämsterviel: either give Sparky to him and save Jumba or keep him and never see Jumba again. After taking a careful minute to consider her options, she says she's come to a decision... and declares that she chooses neither option, freeing Sparky and siccing Stitch on Gantu to save them both. After that, she and Stitch board their ship to save the other experiments. Never mess with ʻohana.
    • Sparky saving Stitch. After having been befriended and called "cousin" by Stitch, he returns the favor, calling Stitch "cousin" in return as he short-circuits Hämsterviel's machine and frees him from his restraints.
  • Padding: There are a couple scenes involving gags of inaction where Hämsterviel waits for something, one of him and Gantu waiting from Jumba's cell hoping to hear him scream in terror of 625 (which ultimately never happens), and one of him waiting for Gantu to get him some phone books to reach Lilo's height on the floating platform she's on.
  • Sequelitis: This is far from one of the worst Disney sequels and it's considered a decent movie in its own right, but ultimately a blatant pilot for the TV series that didn't warrant a feature-length film. It falls short of the original and is usually considered the weakest of the three sequel films.
  • So Okay, It's Average: It's a decent start to Lilo & Stitch: The Series, but nothing spectacular.
  • Tear Jerker: Stitch trying to bond with other humans on Lahui Beach completely fails because he's too freaky (and chaotic) for them. When Moses said, "I told Lilo, no pets," after Stitch epically failed in cutting a pineapple—with a chainsaw—all the little blue alien could do was just walk home.
  • Ugly Cute: Sparky is perhaps even freakier than Stitch; despite his wiry frame, unusual human-like teeth, and long, forked antennae that start at his eyebrows, he's every bit as adorable as his "cousin".
