YMMV / Steven Universe S2E28 "Message Received"

• Base-Breaking Character: Yellow Diamond's appearance is radically different than what many fans had in mind (compare how she looked in the promo◊ to how she actually looks in the show◊), which has lead to a few mixed reactions from some. Could be an example of Art Evolution, as her design is revised and polished in future episodes.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • This comic more or less predicted exactly what Peridot ends up doing in this episode, right down to Yellow Diamond's words before hand having almost the exact same meaning.
  • After the reveal in "A Single Pale Rose," it seems very likely that Pink's and Yellow's Pearls actually would know each other, which means that Pearl's affronted "not all Pearls know each other, Steven" was actually her ducking the question without specifically answering it.
• Like You Would Really Do It: Have Peridot turn traitor after many episodes have been outlining her Character Development?
• Memetic Mutation: "Apparently more than you, you...CLOD!"
  • Yellow Diamond's face upon hearing the insult.
• Moment of Awesome: Peridot finally coming onto the Gems' side by telling off Yellow Diamond for not seeing the (at least fiscal) value of Earth. And then calling her a clod.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Yellow Diamond, a gargantuan gem who has the authority to wipe out an entire planet out of petty spite, all while speaking in a calm, commanding monotone. To say nothing for when she gets angry◊.
  • Yellow Diamond's Pearl. She doesn't have much to say, but her smug stoicism as Yellow Diamond talks is an unnerving reminder who "our" Pearl would be had Rose Quartz not come along.
• Signature Scene: Peridot calling Yellow Diamond a clod has become one of the most popular moments in the series.
